Our half term

This term in Maths we have learnt about addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.  We have used these to solve problems.  We have learnt how to use rounding to make estimates.  In English we have doing a project about Aliens.  We have created characters and made a guide to school.

In Science we have been testing plants.  We’re finding out if leaves are needed for a plant to grow.

Some of our class have been away to Cherry Garth.  We have been learning about the Stone Age and Bronze Age.  We learnt about how grave goods tell us about the past.

Bug Club and Mathletics

bug                    mathletics

We would like to introduce some exciting new resources that children will be using soon.  Bug Club and Mathletics are both online resources to support learning in Maths and English.  We would like to invite you to have a look and use these resources at home to support your child’s learning.  Both Bug Club and Mathletics incorporate directed work, free choice and rewards for participation.

Bug Club

Bug Club includes a huge library of reading books, including comics and plays.  The stories allow children to respond to texts by answering questions to demonstrate their understanding.  Stories can also be read aloud by the software to help with tricky sections.  There are also phonics and grammar activities.

Mathletics

Mathletics is a collection of online activities and games.  Children can choose to complete activities based on what they have been learning and can compete against their class smates if they wish.

Both titles can be accessed online through a web browser or tablet.  There is a dedicated app for Mathletics (Popups need to be allowed for Bug Club).

Children have been given slips with their usernames and passwords to take home.  Please let me know if you need another one.  We really hope that you and your child will enjoy these resources!  Please let me know if you have any questions.

Welcome back!

Hello

The year is whizzing by and we are now in our final term of the year.  Year 4 will be here before you know it!

We have lots of hard work planned for this term.  In Maths we will be focusing on number operations and problem solving.  In English we will be working on improving our spelling, punctuation and grammar and applying this to story writing, reports and instructions.

We will be learning about the Iron Age in our topic work and looking at plants in Science.

Our PE days are still Monday and Thursday.  We encourage children to bring their kit in on Monday and leave it in their locker for the week so that they have it ready.

Thanks

Mr Baker
